We are a multi-stakeholder cooperative setting out to end poverty and regenerate our ecosystems.

If we combine the incredible wisdom and capability of nature with human ingenuity and toolmaking we can produce basic human necessities at near-zero marginal cost to reduce cost of living while increasing the standard of living to that of kings and queens of ages past.
By banding together we can purchase the tools of this new industrial revolution which will undoubtedly change the world as past industrial revolutions have. As we stand at what is undoubtedly a precipice in human history, are you willing to leave it to the 1% to decide the direction the world goes or are we ready to take things into our own hands?

How do we get from where we are now

to where we want to be?

Here's our lengthy and roundabout answer to that question

We certainly don't have all the answers. But right now we think there is a huge opportunity for a cooperative to get into the electricity generation space in San Diego. If we can build a decent size solar + storage farm we think that might be an optimal way to kick off the bigger vision.
After 3D printed housing, hopefully, technology and regulations will be such that it would be good timing for a cooperatively owned autonomous vehicle fleet to be successful (and before that there’s still a massive opportunity in platooning, apps to increase traffic throughput, remotely operated vehicles etc.).
Then water+waste maybe (monetizing ecosystem service and social impact credits via both voluntary markets, environmental impact bonds, and any other instruments that appear), land rehabilitation (again, monetizing the benefit credits), then consumer goods such as clothing, food, devices (all the while doing education & open-sourcing everything). If we get this far hopefully the organization would be big enough to overcome the very high barriers to entry in healthcare.
Our collective incomes would likely have steadily climbed (thanks in part to a growing co-op dividend) while our baseline cost of living would have plummeted to near zero, assuming we ourselves were willing to buy the co-op’s products, and hopefully, we would be since we designed and built them. This leads to a mind-boggling world 15 or 20 years down the road where even just a small portion of our dividend is enough to meet all our basic needs of food, water, shelter, and health, not to mention any salary or income from our labor or other sources.

Then, I think what we’d see is basically Kickstarter on steroids where we all put our wacky ideas out onto the marketplace whether they be an underwater hotel, or something artistic like a clothing design and people get to throw credits at whatever they like. If only one person loves your dress design and wants to buy it but it costs 4,000 credits to produce that one unit that’s ok! In this world, there are no manufacturing minimums :)

In addition to working on our large scale vision of creating something like a San Diego version of the Mondragon Federation focused on eliminating poverty & regenerating our ecosystems, we are also offering a variety of products & services that could help fuel the movement from the bottom up

Copia's Marketplace is built on the vision of making high-quality, essential goods affordable for everyone. By producing these necessities in a regenerative way, and making them modular, easily repairable, easy to disassemble, fully recyclable, but also designed to last a lifetime we aim to transform the relationship between the products we need (and want) and the natural environment.

Our past offerings have included locally salvaged lumber for eco-conscious building projects, a unique tiny house on wheels designed for minimalist, eco-friendly living, and an organic plant fertilizer produced from algae and biochar. We're also partnering with the community to identify and promote products that support a regenerative lifestyle, from water filtration systems to modular e-bikes.

Through continuous innovation and collaboration, we're working to expand our Marketplace and help build a future where sustainability is the norm, not the exception.

IMAGINE A WORLD WHERE…

Mortgage payments are $350/month and that gets you a non-toxic, comfortable, and functional home to live in.

Moving yourself from A to B costs 10 cents a mile and you have access to an epic network of e-bikes/scooters, cars, buses, trains, planes, and dirigibles that are there for you with seamless transitions when and where you need them.

Affordable health care providers actually CARE about YOUR overall human HEALTH not just the absence of disease or fear of liability.

Delicious and nutritious food is within walking distance no matter where you live, and it was produced on lush land full of biodiversity that is getting healthier and more resilient every year.

Water that is constantly being cleaned and rejuvenated with systems that are always producing more freshwater than is needed for humans and where the surplus goes back to feed other creatures and our ecosystems.

Devices and appliances that are easily repairable/upgradeable where most replacement parts can be 3D printed or manufactured within blocks of where you live and not even one of the raw materials is mined by a child slave.

Cheap classes on all kinds of topics are available that you can jump into at any time and where the whole class takes notes together in a collaborative document that creates a body of knowledge that grows with every new class that passes through.

OUR ASK…

We need your help. We’re in the early stages of another industrial revolution and it presents the perfect opportunity to change things, but the only way this is going to work is if tens of thousands of us start joining together to make it happen. It doesn’t work with 50 people. 500 might be able to just barely get it off the ground. 5,000 might be able to get a little fire goin’. 50,000 and I think we can start to change the world.

If we band together to purchase the new tools and equipment that this industrial revolution is yielding and we apply those means of production intelligently we can drive the marginal cost of all our basic necessities down toward zero, while also producing significantly more value & gaining financial and personal freedom. Oh and we can turn the Earth back into an Eden with a bio-human economy that works for all life on this planet.
